Westlake Village Hospice offers the comfort and convenience of hospice care in your own home. We are an outpatient facility, so we do not have an office location with medical amenities. Instead, we arrange for hospice nurses and physicians to administer care at the location of your choosing. This allows you or your loved one to remain in familiar, comfortable surroundings.
Patients facing serious illnesses often find it more beneficial to remain in their own homes. If a person has chosen hospice care, they have chosen not to seek further treatment for their condition, rendering extended hospital stays mostly unnecessary. Not only do you save the expense of occupying a hospital bed for days or weeks, you avoid the often sterile, stressful environments of a hospital. What you lose in immediate access to treatment, you gain in the psychological comfort of your domestic surroundings.
Having a qualified, compassionate hospice nurse is essential for end of life care. Westlake Village Hospice has a talented staff of nurses that can make you as comfortable as possible and assist your family through this trying time. We take extraordinary steps to find you a hospice nurse who suits your needs and can give you the highest standard of care.
To become a hospice nurse, a person must become a Registered Nurse (RN) and may complete training in fields specific to hospice care. Hospice nurses typically have either an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or a Master’s Degree in Hospice and Palliative Nursing. The topics they have studied include: Anatomy and physiology, Pharmacology, Health assessment, Nursing skills and fundamentals, Medical and biological ethics, Geriatrics, and Psychology.
Westlake Village Hospice is an outpatient facility. We do not treat patients at our office location. Instead, we visit patients at their homes. This allows the patient to remain in an environment that’s comfortable and familiar, without the stress of a hospital or other inpatient facility. Our hospice nurses are prepared to assist you in your home with whatever care you require.
There are many benefits for a patient to remain in their home while facing a serious illness. Hospital beds are limited and hospital stays are expensive; you can run up quite a bill just by staying in a bed for several days or weeks. Also, hospitals can make for sterile, uncomfortable surroundings, with strangers constantly coming and going. The advantage of staying in a hospital is immediate treatment, but since hospice patients have decided to cease curative treatment for their condition, this benefit is mostly unnecessary.
A hospice physician is responsible for providing crucial care during the last months or weeks or life. Working with a team of hospice nurses, caregivers, and the patient themselves, hospice physicians ensure that the patient is as comfortable as possible and make recommendations for further care. When you receive hospice care from Westlake Village Hospice, you gain access to the skills and expertise of hospice physicians to provide the best possible care for you or your loved one.
Hospice physicians can come from different backgrounds and fields of medicine. But they share the common goal of easing suffering, and make expert medical recommendations based on the patient’s needs. Unlike a typical doctor who may have 200 or more patients, hospice physicians have the flexibility to see patients as often as needed. Physicians will visit the patient on a regular schedule, and if the patient is in continuous care, they may visit more often. They are also on call if the patient’s condition suddenly changes or worsens. They communicate extensively with the patient, their caregivers, and their nursing staff to determine how the patient is progressing and develop medical recommendations.
If you’ve chosen hospice care, you deserve the best care providers for you or your loved one. Westlake Village Hospice provides you access to a cohort of professional, qualified nurses and physicians to make the end of life transition as peacefully as possible. Hospice nurses and physicians share a commitment to helping people spiritually, mentally, and physically, and view it as their duty to ease suffering and pain.
Hospice nurses are Registered Nurses (RNs), who have completed an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree at an accredited university. Their fields of expertise may include psychology, geriatrics, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and more. Nurses take charge of the patient’s day-to-day care, and may act as primary caregivers if the patient does not have a family member who can perform that function. You’re in good hands with a qualified hospice nurse from Westlake Village Hospice.
