Dementia Caregiving

Alzheimer’s disease, the most common cause of dementia, is seen in more than 4 million cases per year in the US. Not only do those stricken with this disease oftentimes not remember their spouses let alone their own children, but this terrible sickness is one that leaves the patient’s body relatively strong while deteriorating the mind, thus affecting everyone around them emotionally, physically, and economically for up to several years.

Westlake Village Hospice specializes in cognitive impairments from Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, stroke, cancer, kidney disease, congestive heart failure, liver disease, respiratory disease, ALS, neurological disease, cardiac disease, adult failure to thrive, Huntington’s disease.

Our hospice team implements special management strategies, tools and techniques, a variety of tailored therapies, and around-the-clock certified care to help the brain hold on to cognition and thrive. In addition, we also provide patient, family, and caregiver support, as well as grief and spiritual counseling.

Dementia Home Hospice Care

Westlake Village Hospice offers the comfort and convenience of hospice care in your own home. We are an outpatient facility, so we do not have an office location with medical amenities. Instead, we arrange for hospice nurses and physicians to administer care at the location of your choosing. This allows you or your loved one to remain in familiar, comfortable surroundings.

Patients facing serious illnesses often find it more beneficial to remain in their own homes. If a person has chosen hospice care, they have chosen not to seek further treatment for their condition, rendering extended hospital stays mostly unnecessary. Not only do you save the expense of occupying a hospital bed for days or weeks, you avoid the often sterile, stressful environments of a hospital. What you lose in immediate access to treatment, you gain in the psychological comfort of your domestic surroundings.

Caring For Patients With Dementia

Our Hospice team will perform a specialized, individualized assessment taking into consideration any specific care needs and tailor a Plan of Care centering on personal choices and needs for people with Dementia.

At the center of Hospice is the belief that each of us has the right to die pain free and with dignity and that our families’ loved ones will receive the necessary support to allow us to do so.

Insurances for Dementia patients

Hospice care is a fully covered benefit under Medicare Part A and the Medi-Cal program. Most private insurances also cover hospice care, but coverage is subject to the patient’s policy deductibles and out-of-pocket limitations. When considering hospice care, your insurance coverage will be reviewed and discussed to ensure you understand the financial implications. Any questions will be addressed before care begins.

Regardless of your insurance coverage, your hospice benefit covers visits, medical supplies, medications related to your terminal condition, and durable medical equipment. When you choose the hospice benefit for a specific disease diagnosis, you opt out of traditional Medicare coverage, committing to pursue comfort and palliative measures only, and foregoing aggressive or curative therapies for your disease process. If you seek curative treatment for a diagnosis unrelated to the terminal condition, it will be covered under your Medicare program.

Testimonials

When the difficult times comes, you want to give a best comfort and care to your loved ones. And in this time is very hard to make a choice who to go with and have a peace of mind that your loved ones are in a good hands. I’ve made a huge mistake, chose and agency that owned by a friend of a friend who I know, and had a nightmare for 5 full days ( the only easy part was a sign up), other than that, I felt that for them my Mom is a “piece” to make money with. Thankfully, I’ve been referred to Alexandra ( at that time I didn’t even knew the name of the agency). From the first conversation with her that took an hour and she wanted to know everything about my mom, her situation and about our family, I felt very comfortable, I felt that she cares about people who gets under her care. I’ve decided to make a transfer from the “nightmare agency “ to her. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Transfer was very smooth and easy , she answered every phone call and text, was concerned about every single detail. When the transfer was completed, I had nurse coming to the house within an hour. He spent a good 40 min with me and mom, making sure he didn’t miss anything about her health and condition. Next day, I had everyone on my mom team calling me, and with every single person I came in contact with, it was very easy to communicate, I felt warmth and compassion. Every question and concern I had was addressed. I called Alexandra and told her that, and thank her for having such an incredible team. And I came into a peace myself, feeling that I don’t have to frustrated anymore with getting help, and can concentrate on spending my time with mom. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I’m a business owner my self working directly with clients, and always believing that yes we are in business to make a living, but your client or patient come first. And that is what I’m experiencing so far with Alexandra and her team.
